Two weeks of food for every pet, plus their water and any medicines. Pets are part of the household plan.
Pet food keeps every animal in your household fed through a two week bug in, when stores may be closed or shelves bare. Choose food your pets already eat so the emergency brings no upset stomachs.
- Quantity: Stock at least 14 days of meals for each pet, figured from the daily portion on the label.
- Familiar formula: Lay in the same formula and flavor your pets eat now, since a sudden switch can cause digestive trouble.
- Shelf life: Check the best-by date and rotate the supply into daily feeding so the oldest bag gets used first.
- Packaging: Keep dry kibble in its original bag inside a sealed, pest-proof container in a cool, dry spot, and pick pull-tab cans for wet food.
- Water and medicine: Set aside drinking water for each pet and a two week supply of any prescription medicines alongside the food.
