The heat tool that closes mylar bags. Without one, mylar and oxygen absorbers are just expensive parts, because the seal is the thing that makes the system work.
- Match the seal bar width to your bags. An eight inch sealer will not close a five gallon mylar bag in a single clean pass.
- Look for adjustable timing. Thicker mylar needs a longer dwell, and an underdone seal fails silently months later.
- Check that the heating element is replaceable. The wire is a consumable, and a sealer you cannot service is a disposable one.
- Test every seal by hand before the bag goes in the bucket. Pull it, flex it, and check the corners, which is where seals fail.
- A hair straightener or a clothes iron will work in a pinch, though neither gives consistent results on seven mil bags.
