Reusable glass storage that is pest-proof, endlessly reusable, and see-through, which matters more than it sounds when rotation depends on being able to see what you have.
- Pick one mouth size and stay with it. Regular mouth seals slightly better, wide mouth is easier to fill and clean, and standardizing means every lid fits every jar.
- Match the jar to the job. Quart and half-gallon suit dry staples, while pints suit smaller canned batches.
- Treat lids as the consumable. Canning lids are single-use for canning, though they are fine to reuse for dry storage.
- Respect the two weaknesses, light and impact. Keep jars on a dark, stable shelf and never on a high one.
- For dry storage, pair them with a vacuum sealer jar attachment or an oxygen absorber. A jar alone is airtight, not oxygen-free.
